Texas has become the seventh state to sue the tobacco industry, claiming that the tobacco companies placed profits above the well-being of the American people, and deliberately suppressed evidence linking nicotine and various illnesses. The suit also alleges that the tobacco industry used advertising targeted at children to build their customer base, obscuring the addictive, unhealty elements of smoking.
